The RIAA has everyone so spooked about theft that no one is willing 
to risk years of litigations. Remember, this is the group that went 
after kids downloading music. While I don't like the idea of theft of 
intellectual property it seemed counterproductive to sue your 
customers. I don't think they make a distinction between music and text.

What seems foolish to me is their fear of digital, except for the 
ability to copy CDs. All the devices they worry about are not CD 
quality and aren't exact copies of the originals any more than an 
analog copy would be. I can make an equally good copy from the analog 
outputs of most of the devices they attack.

They should be worrying about the future ability to copy HD-DVD and 
Blu-Ray discs bit for bit.

Wouldn't a "raw" data stream include the audio content, as well?
