I bought one for my wife's MP3 player. If it's range was 3', that would be
generous. (It's antenna was inside the little 6" audio input cable.) The only
way to get a listenable signal on the car radio was to hold the thing up by the
windshield, near the antenna. Not good. I ended up taking it apart and adding
the equivalent of a wire dipole to it, 18" on each side. That increased the
range to about 10'. Now, it can sit on the seat of the car, and give an almost
perfect signal with the wire antenna stretched out.
Inside the house, it faded to the point of unlistenablility at about 4-5 feet
from the stereo (which has a pair of 18" wires for it's antenna, as well).
Once I added the wires to the little transmitter, that improved to about 10-12'
before it started to break up. BTW, I get at least 2-3 dozen stations on my
stereo with just those little wires for an antenna. Talk about RF soup!
