You got me curious. I had never checked it. I fed my MP3 player into 
the modulator, tuned it to 87.9 and got a clean signal on the car 
radio. I took a portable receiver outside the car, tuned to 87.9, and 
got no signal whatsoever, even right next to the fully extended 
antenna. I can play filthy dirty stuff through the modulator with no 
fear of fines.
