Making all documents available online is a great goal. That's Google's
scan the world project (recognizing there may be copyright problems).
Instant access to all the world's info is great. Some have pointed out the
value of a librarian in assisting in search. I agree. This could, however,
also happen over the Internet. I believe Google has a paid search option
where you pay the "librarian" to find the most appropriate documents for
you. Mailing lists like this also serve as "the librarian." Members who
have already found valuable information provide links to it when others
ask specific questions. Saves us from having to wade through the
10,000,000 search results. Finally... Paper is great! I'm working on a
project right now where the "datasheet" on a chip is online, which is
great! I can browse it to see if it's right for the application, and not
have to wait for a printed copy in the mail. But, when it actually comes
down to designing it into a product, I went ahead and printed out the 286
page "data sheet." I have instant random access to any info, can mark it
up, put Post It index tabs on pages of particular importance, etc. Paper
is good...
