Yes, it's sad, but it's only going to get worse. Today's college
students are the first generation who have not known a world without the
Internet, iPods, DVDs, satellite radio and all the other media competing
with traditional radio and television. I see it in my engineering work
for a college radio station. It's getting more and more difficult to
interest students in something they view as ancient, and the students
who listen are for the most part the students who work at the station.
The colleges, unwittingly, are aiding and abetting the run away from
radio by having fully wireless-capable campuses and requiring all
incoming freshmen to own notebook computers. Add to that the natural
rebellion that people that age tend to have, where they view anything
their parents use as old-hat.
