[BC] WUOG Interfering with Chemistry Lab

This was also a problem for many years at WRUR, licensed to the
University of Rochester.

In the early '70s, they were authorized for 20 kW ERP (5 kW
transmitter into a four-bay horizontal ring antenna on a short tower
atop the student union) but learned the hard way that the high RF
field was clobbering sensitive lab equipment elsewhere on campus.
For several years, they operated at 1 kW under an STA, then the FCC
revoked the 20 kW licnese and the station eventually found another
site off campus.

When I visited WRUR around 1978, the 250 watt driver cabinet of the
Collins transmitter (830-E?) was plumbed directly to the antenna line,
with the 5 kW PA cabinet just sitting there disconnected and
collecting dust. I'm not sure if the PA was ever put back into
service at the new site.
