Patrick,
Read the article in last month's Radio Guide, a publication that
Barry & Ray Topp are involved in. They send it out in print as well as
it can be downloaded too.
Anyway, I was speaking of Ron Nott of Nott, Ltd. Ron wrote an
article on elevated ground systems. What Ron is saying is that there is
now some "proof in the pudding" that a 6 wire elevated ground system in
equal to a 120 buried system that the commission wants. The wires work
better above the ground, than under the dirt.
This is something to think about.
I'm not sure what LBA is talking about with their deal, I'll take a
look at it.

My idea would to use only 6 radials. In a new installation like that,
which is not done anymore, 6 radials at 1/4 wave would be perfect.

Scott, your mention of using only 6 radials reminded me of a system
marketed by LBA under the Basemax trademark. They describe it as a "base
enhancement system." It consists of either 3 or 6 - 19 foot aluminum
tubing radials elevated above the ground at the base of the tower.
Apparently it is designed to work in conjunction with a conventional
radial system to prevent major changes in ground system parameters
caused by snow accumulation, foliage, tides, flooding, etc around the
antenna structure. Check out the LBA web site at
http://www.lbagroup.com/technology/tunicomb.php and look for Basemax at
the bottom of the page.
