K9SI here, a ham since 1969.
When I got my first chief engineering job in broadcasting in 1974, I
thought all chief engineers had ham licenses and pilot licenses. I had both
and all the chiefs I had met so far did. Only later did I find out that
chiefs were not actually required to be hams and pilots.
