We have a city nearby named Shabbona. You can always tell the newbie
announcers on the nearby stations because they say sha BONE ahh. It is just sha
bbona
spoken as one syllable with no accent on, well, the BONE. Sorry, I don't
remember all of those pronunciation symbols I learned in junior high :-)
One station I worked at insisted for a while that I also learn how to do an
air shift. I said OK, but I want an air name, Stu Pedasso. Go around the
station today saying that name real fast, and you will see why they decided to
leave me in engineering :-)
My alternate was Sir Basil Smallpiece III, but I did not have to play that
card. Easy win with my first choice :-D No on-air work for me!
