Near us here in Louisiana there is Natchitoches (Na-ki-tush) and Ouachita (Wash-i taw) parish just
to mention a few.  Near another of our locations is Le Compte (La-count), and many others.

After doing some work in Rumford (Rumfet) Maine, I determined that the
only chance that an "R" had to be pronounced was to be the first letter
of the word.

Of course, here in the south, we liberally interject various vowels,
consonants, nouns, pronouns and the occasional adverb into otherwise
totally unrelated words.
