Yep, by taking advantage of the directional properties of a
dipole antenna (as was recently discussed) an AM station
can, in fact, 'disappear'. This does invite the opportunity
for additional broadcasters to occupy the same channel
and offer a different variety of programming. While some
may argue this will congest an already congested AM band,
one cannot overlook the additional FCC fees collected for
the new broadcasters, the additional equipment purchases
and the ability to better compete with iPod, MP3 and other
non-terrestrial entertainment media.
