Your comments about the limited bandwidth of the caller are correct.
I record the caller and talent. The talent is recorded from an output of
the mic processor.
When played back on cheap sound cards, the talent does not sound the
same, as when the processed mic is live on the air.
That is why the sound card matters, in this case. I'm sure the caller on
their cell phone will still sound bad.
