Chip ... the quote filter ONLY operates on
posts over 20 lines in length that have
LESS than 20% new text. (That is, although
netiquette sites usually say 50% should be
new, the filter lets 80% quotes go through).

Over the past four or five months, it has
stopped several dozen instances where someone
has tried to quote an entire Digest to say "I agree
         with you."

Also, more than a few times where people have hit
"Reply" and "Send" in error, when they did
         not intent to do so.

It has prevented Digests filled with quotes of quotes
         of quotes. ...

In fact, the best part is that the Digest readers have
pretty much stopped complaining about the "hard to
         read" Digests, filled with repetition.

Usually it only affects the quick response to a long
message. And those times when long .sigs are
         repeatedly quoted.

We even send out a nice little "reminder" to folks
to let them know what happened.

And, we've been trying to catch when someone
quotes "To" Broadcast at radiolists.net and the
subject line ... among other header lines ... and
         cleaning up things that way.

I do hope your comment was sort of tongue in cheek,
because we are trying to make the list better for
         everyone.
