TCP predates IBM NetBIOS by a decade or so, as such *nix ( on which
both Linux and Mac OS-X are based ) had little need to implement it
 at all.
These days is mostly done through SMB tools, and M$ compatibility stuff.
( though NetBIOS predates M$ by several years )
If there's a Samba server on the network to handle the name resolution
for *nix clients, it ought to work.
