Well radio as we used to know it is fast becoming
RCOs, an aviation term .. remote communications
outlets. Data are taken off a down-link and fed
to AM and FM transmitters because most automobiles
are not (yet) equipped to receive satellites directly.
The advantage of satellite radio is obvious to the
accountants who run these things. The data can come
from anywhere like China or other countries that
don't require toilets for employees. What's between
the commercials in the data-stream is irrelevant.
Of course there is an occasional expense of replacing
a satellite that got stomped by the Russians.

You know what? Reading this thread is like a bad dream! What we are doing
here is getting a radio program to a radio station via satellite. Why are we
letting this system happen?. Job security for the "it" guys? Geesh !
