I have had racks built into cabinetry several times. Make sure that the
walls will support the rack full of equipment.  Also make sure that you
have sufficient width.   I strongly suggest making the rack width at
least a quarter inch wider than necessary to allow shim adjustment of
the rails.

I have also found that it is generally cheaper to buy racks instead of
building them.
