Having the government come in and tell a radio station what to broadcast is
too Orwellian for me. I think we need a new book entitled 2084. It will
include the Fairness Doctrine chips embedded in everyone's ears so they are
forced to hear everything, and not just what they want to hear.
What people want to hear is exactly why stations broadcast the programming
they do. And that is why some programming groups have failed. Forced
programming will do nothing more than drive away audiences. Massachusetts
is about as left wing as it gets, yet "leftie" talk shows don't do anywhere
near as well as "righties" around here.
The thought of forcing web sites to add links to places with opposing views
is even more disturbing. I truly hope that the groups afflicted by this
have a large legal budget and fight this until they succeed. The First
Amendment may have been limited to voice and print, but only because radio
and the internet were not invented yet. Having my ISP scan my data for
content is no different than having some government agent constantly tapping
my telephone or planting a recording bug on me. Unacceptable!
