OTOH, just how much cost is involved in running an SCA channel?

The "rental" income on them is almost pure profit; so it might behoove 
the owners to make some sort of arrangement - say, pay at least (insert 
percentage here) of the arrears, and as long as you remain current with 
future payments, we'll consider a rate reduction...

They may or may not go for it, but if they do, you've kept at least part 
of the cash cow in the barn.....
