Exactly. In the mid 90's, WFIF implemented this policy with all newcomers. It
was very effective. The problems usually came from some of the long-term
program providers, who were "grandfathered" under the old rules. They would
sometimes fall several *months* behind... then catch up.
WFIF, as do many Christian stations, also have specific standards and
guidelines for what is allowed onto their airwaves. We don't just accept anything and
everything that walks in with a tape and a few greenbacks. It makes for a
much more harmonious format when the programmers agree on 80-90% of what they're
teaching/discussing. Listeners tend to "stay tuned" longer, and thus, become
better supporters. (There are a lot of nuances to the Christian Talk format
that most won't realize unless they've been a part of it for some time.)
For those obvious "dollar-a-hollar" stations, the owners just don't care. As
long as the check is good, the program airs... listeners are irrelevant.
That's why those kinds of stations are so often an embarassment. They tend to give
Christian Radio a bad name, primarily due to the severity of their
lack-of-quality, gutteral screaming, etc. styled programs.
Excercising tighter QC on the programming WFIF accepted for broadcast went a
LONG way toward dramatically improving the station's sound and image. It is
one of the things I am very proud of and blessed to have been a part! It's good
to see those standards continuing to this day! :)
