[BC] Now I know why they overbid so much in the FCC auctions!

I was thinking the same thing...it's an interesting question, isn't it?

Let me tell you about one of the CP's they bought at auction: Ness City, KS.
For over TWELVE YEARS, the Ness City allotment was a 'first come, first serve'
allotment. This means that the first application filed for it got it. The
reason was because a filing window had opened and closed with no one wanting
it. So during this 12 plus years, no one wanted this station, because Ness
City is literally in the middle of nowhere.

College Creek Media paid over $90,000 for it during FCC auction no 37.

The reason (according to their DOE): With a thousand foot tower, this station
will rimshot Hays KS-a city of about 25,000, with about a 2.0 mv/m signal.

Here's its contour:

The Hays stations are starving themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if their
rates are now under 5 bucks a spot.

They also bid close to 100,000 for another allotment that I was also bidding
for in KS (I was the original petitioner). I dropped out when the bidding hit
$60K.

About 4 months ago they sold BOTH CPs (Burdett and Ness City, KS) for TEN
THOUSAND DOLLARS!

A former broadcaster I know from there bought them. I'm glad for him.

Of course, if they find that these guys bought these stations with stolen
money, does it mean that my friend who bought them is screwed? After all, if
they are found to be criminals then theyn are not qualified to be licensees.

does this mean that any radio station they are connected with is now
a dead station, or not really their's?

Here are the defendants: Christopher Divine, Bruce Buzil, Lakeshore
Media
LLC, Millcreek Broadcasting LLC, College Creek Media LLC, Marathon Media
Group
etc.
