There seems to be some debate over which microphone was
dubbed the "Buchanan Hammer". Supposedly the late Don
Kirkendall, who was appointed Advertising Manager for E/V
by founder Al Kahn in 1954, heard a salesman hitting a nail on
the wall with a model 644 microphone to prove it would still
work. Since Electro Voice was based in Buchanan, MI he
dubbed it the "Buchanan Hammer" and the name stuck.
That term has also been applied to the 635A which, in fact,
is a rugged microphone. That term has also been used for the
model 664 dynamic cardioid mic.
