I know I shared this with the list when it happened, and apparently we were
the only people
in the country to see this, but several years ago ABC NEWS NOW ran the Paul
Harvey
obituary package. It was fairly long since it was in progress when I came
across it. I called my
wife and we sat and watched the rest of the story (no pun intended) and then
they said,
"This has been a test". We sat there wondering if he had died or not. This
was late on a
Saturday night. We checked on Sunday and no one knew anything about it. I
found it
amazing that no one else seemed to have viewed it. (which is apparently why
the channel
is no longer around)
It is interesting that his death is announced on a Saturday night several
years later and that Paul
actually outlived ABC NEWS NOW.
I remember my grandmother listening to him every afternoon. I use to cut her
lawn as a kid and
we listened to Paul as we were eating lunch. She told me he was the best
announcer on the radio.
I don't think I really appreciated him until years later. I would time my
30min lunch break so I
could listen to him while I was driving to McD's. Decades later, I would
listen to the Rest of the Story
coming home from the TV station. I can't think of another national
broadcaster who has spanned
so many generations and influenced so many people. He will be missed.
