[BC] Fun with Quad Videotape

I remember those 90-minute quad reels, and you're certainly right about
how they could damage a foot... The most fun I ever saw with those was
when we replaced the pair of 60-minute reels we used for a daily show
feed with 2 90-minute reels, and the operator forgot to put on bigger
takeup reels...

And talking about cheap...the station where I worked in 1985-1990 was so
cheap that instead of replacing worn 3/4" cassettes that we used for
spot playback, we bought an eraser/cleaning unit, cleaned loose oxide
off of the tape, and then cut out the worn portion and spliced the rest
back together...

The station I worked at in 1970 was cheap and instead of replacing worn quad spot reels, we would apply the tip of a pair of scissors to the spot reel, hit rewind, and watch the tape fly. We would then wind on 2:00 of new 3M Quad 399 to the old spot reel. The large loads were heavy. I once dropped a 90 minute quad on my toe and lost my toenail over it!
