Well, I found Galaxy 16, and I know why I couldn't find it two weeks ago.
There is a local interference source that operates intermittently. When
it is on, the satellite dish is unusable and the spectrum analyzer
overloads unless I apply another 20 dB of attenuation.
Mind you, this is Block Island, RI. There's nothing within a twelve mile
radius of this site but salt water and one town of about 1,000 people that
doesn't even have a traffic light. Yet there's something there that zaps
the bejeezus out of my client's LNB, and that's even with a bandpass
filter installed.
It wasn't there in 2006, when that dish last saw use.
I couldn't find the interference with the spectrum analyzer; it may be
above 3 GHz, which is as high as it will go.
Could it be Homeland Security, or some Navy bullshit from Newport or the
sub base in Groton? Whataver it is, it's made me waste a lot of my time
and energy.
