For a long time, WGN's aux tower could not operate at 50KW. A network
could not be built big enough for the necessary currents in the AT
building. That changed in the 90's when a model of the tower was done,
and the network redesigned to require less phase shift and circulating
currents Plus a super heavy custom coil was built.
So now the 300ft. +/- self-supporting short tower there can run 50KW. But
the RFR protection area for excessive magnetic energy is something like
50-70ft. radius of the tower and 20ft ft. around the brick ATU building
due to the coil fields. It's nasty.
