Can't you rebuild your metering board? The one on the original FM3.5 and
5 kW models was 919--0048-004, that fitted on the filament studs on the
side of the lower enclosure of the PA cavity. I designed that around
1983. It sounds like BE sent you the later redesign 919-0048-008. Both
had the fusable link, which is in series with the center tap of the
filament transformer. It was 28 AWG wire and I suppose it would open if
cathode current was high enough. Memory is vague of this, and I don't
have the online schematic of the earlier board here, only the later
version in the T series.
If you have a small HV supply, you could test the BE HV meter with the
series multiplier resistors. There has to be a short across the meter or
an open in the circuit somewhere?
