The latest Firefox works well on W2K.

Yes. Purchasing decisions should be made considering long term support experience. ENCO never laughs when I mention that one of our workstations still runs NT4.0 and DAD version 4.2m. It still runs, was buillt by them, and is still (software) supported.

We purchased a 25 year old Continental 816R to supplant our 40 year old RCAs at WNKN (formerly WPFB-FM). I would not have considered a Harris or BE of that age as they would not be supported - the Continental is supported. It is also a classic, ageless design.

Manufacturers are short-sighted at their peril with completely dropping support of a product. Sure, some components will no longer be available, but in those instances work-around upgrades should be offered.

Most of us that work in this industry keeping everything running seem to have longer memories than many of the manufacturers.

>There are some automation systems too. We kept W2K alive for our automation system as it worked and was the preferred OS version for the version of software we are using. An upgrade of the program also required an upgrade to the OS. I wasn't about to spend $2000 on OS, plus double that to rebuild the machines and make operational again. The whole concept of forced obsolescence annoys me to no end. ... This type of long term sustaining support (lacking) is going to be a major component in my replacement purchasing decisions in the coming years.
