As I recall Channel 8 originally was it KDTV or KBTV???? They had two Dumonts in the studios and two or three on the old bus. Don Easterwood and Roy refitted the old bus for Church remotes etc. because the Ampex bus was so busy. As I recall they bought some more of the Marconic/Ampex cameras B& W for the old bus. Who knows what happened to the old DuMont Cameras? That had to be about 1964-65..
I was about 14 years old when WFAA-TV came out one Saturday and did play-by-play on an Irving, Texas Little League Basesball game. As I recall they had three cameras, Home Plate, First base and third base. They were all the Dumonts with the power supply in the center of the tripod base.
They could not get an audio program line from Southwestern States Telephone in Irving to 3000 Harry Hines Studios. Radio sent out their suburban to relay the audio via radio RPU from the Irving ball park to radio in the Santa Fe building, on Commerce Street, downtown and via telephone line back to TV studios on Harry Hines. Incidentally the baseball play-by-play man was Jerry Haynes, later Mr. Peppermint.
