Anyway, I can certainly see why these [iPod-like] things are so popular. It
is smaller than a pack of cancer sticks, and will hold about 1500 MP3 files.
(at 128Kbps) People may be thinking "Who needs radio when you have that!" This
would be especially true for those whose markets don't have any stations
playing their favorite music. (Like NYC with no Country, or most of CT with no
Christian music.)
Anyway,. time to put it back into the box and wrap it for her for Christmas.
I'm sure she will be most pleased. Now I want one!
Willie...
This may be true for most music, since we know we're unlikely to hear much we haven't heard
7000X in the last 35 years on commercial radio. But radio still has the immediacy factor, ie
news, talk and live broadcasts of performances.
When the next hurrican hits, or (God forbid) terrorist attack, or chemical spill occurs, iPods will be
about as useful as a cigarette lighter. Actually- the lighter will be far more useful.
So perhaps a migration to iPods etc will cause radio programmers to invent new ways of being "live" and interesting/informative, as opposed
to the canned stuff. Perhaps this will be the best thing to happen to radio?
It may have to scale back a bit, but I don't see iPods satisfying everyone's needs.
Or perhaps I'm a big baked potato.
