As a listener I agree with you and hope, some day, that radio will be 
taken seriously as a critical listening medium. Until then, probably 
when analog goes away, stations aren't going to want dramatic 
differences between modes.

At the moment this is little more than mental gymnastics. In my 
market its only HD radio not owned by a station is about to be sent 
back to its owner. 100% of HD listening in Western MA is about to disappear.

Perhaps the 8500s sent to the East Coast have been delayed by the snow.
