When Dick Sequerra was Chief at WNCN I recall no processing at all. 
Not even limiting. One day I heard the station disappear from the 
dial after a cymbal crash. I wouldn't be surprised if it went up to 109.7.

I think the Times is still providing newscasts, though I don't think 
they're quite what they were then. The station moved out of the Times 
building years ago, though I've heard they may move back, if they 
haven't already. I was told they were moving everything into a new 
building in Times Square.

About that time audio magazines still considered radio as a possible 
source. I went to the NYC HiFi show (formerly Stereophile) a couple 
of years ago. I don't recall seeing an AM/FM tuner or receiver in the 
place. I doubt there was a system for less than $30-40 thousand.
