[BC] Rich Reigns Supreme

I do an oldies show every Friday night and we talk about the history of Rock
& Roll (I keep it short) between songs. We receive many calls with
questions and local trivia we include with the show.

The core is 1965 to 1972 with off shots from 1955 to 1985.

Because I have lived in the local area for 55 years I insert local colour
from the past. Some of the listeners tune in just to hear what I am going
to talk about next.

One of the goals is to educate the younger listeners about how the music
evolved and what artists were linked to which groups (bands).

Now I have two other local stations interested in carrying the show. All I
have to do is try to figure how to trip their automation.

Much work and research goes into each show (Where did Three Dog Night get
their name?... On very cold nights it required three dogs to keep warm).
So show prep time is very important to keep the show interesting and fresh.

Now Rich, that is one of the funniest things I have read in a long time.

And, it makes my point.

The problem with Oldies Stations (and I am a former radio jock myself)
or any such formatted station requires that it keeps itself fresh by using
(1) a broad playlist; heck man, most oldies stations I know do not know
that 'doo wop' or rock-a-billy even exist short of two or three songs and
(2) an intelligent host. Something that satellite or computer HD can only
rarely provide. Casey K's weekly program or Dick C. weekly program is an
exception.

>In our town here, we have a 'Music of your Life' station and I like
>listening to it because it is the sort of radio I like except for
>it's lack of news or chatter. It also sounds good on my old radios.
>Nevertheless, it is the same music all the time and is in need of a lot of
>revision in my opinion.

That's going to require a lot of resurrections.
