The San Francisco Symphony's Youth Orchestra (with players as young as
about 10 years of age) sounds better than many professional regional
orchestras. They play three concerts per year and are coached by San
Francisco Symphony musicians. Last year, they toured Europe to high
acclaim. Whenever I hear this orchestra, I feel very much encouraged about
the future of symphonic music in the US.
