Because, Dennis.
The listener is not the customer. Just ask your across town monster rival, Clear Channel. The customer is the advertiser. The listener is just something they put up with, to draw customers.
In other words, the customer is the entities with the $. Employees are a negative $ expense. Listeners are an irritant and only the PD worries with listeners. CC and most successful broadcast entities are sales driven - the customer is king - the listener is low in the equation.
It should NOT be that way, but it is.
So why would they do this reasearch ahead of time? It shows the comtempt they have for the listener.
