In phonetic circles that's known as "received pronunciation." It's
the absolutely correct way to speak. If you use phonetics, everyone
can sound the same.

Bruce Morrow's personality transcends any local sound. Some
personalities on the WOR Radio Network couldn't be affiliated because
they sounded "too New York" or, in the case of Bob Grant, the topics
often dealt with New Jersey politics. It can be argued that New York
politics affects the nation. New Jersey politics barely even affects
residents of the state.
Joan Rivers has overcome the New York sound, as have many other
personalities and actors.
Much of that neutral sound has gone away in favor of local
personalities sounding like they belong in their markets.
