LOL!! Well, Tom, thanks for the applause. <g> When the title of that song was
mentioned, the floodgates opened, and I swam in the old memories... so I
figfured I'd share the experience a little. I'm glad I did.
When I got home, yesterday, I dug-up my copy of the song, and played it.
Hadn't listened to it in years. It was fun to remember those long-gone days of
youth. What was so interesting was that I remembered the details of the song far
better than I thought. Every "punch" of the horns and other accents of the
orchestra were familiar. Memory is an amazing thing.
There are several instrumentals that bring back good memories for me.
"Autobahn" by Kraftwerk (the 45 version), Burt Kaempfert's version of "Morgen" (My
Mom is German), "Chariots of Fire" by Vangelis, "Popcorn" (by Hot Butter) and a
few others. There's definately a "soundtrack" running through my life, all the
way back to my earliest childhood. "These boots were made for walking" and
"Birds and the Bees" (Clyde Aiken(sp)) are songs that bring back my earliest,
just-past toddler, memories. The "Boots" song made me laugh my little head off,
picturing cartoon-boots walking on someone all by themselves. I even got my
own record player when I was about 3 years old. It had tubes, and a felt-covered
metal platter that rang like a bell when I tapped it. I also remember being
fascinated by the buzzing sound it would make by touching just the right spot
under the tonearm. Needless to say, I drove my folks nuts playing those 45's
over and over...
