The fan runs at power-up as part of the BIOS self-test.
Since it runs, you know that the BIOS knows best, and it does work.
XP, being a "plug-n-play" system, takes over and over rides
BIOS in most ways.
Of course, XP is all things to all people, and knows better that the specific
perscription for YOUR case. One size fits all, and we ignore your specific
perscription, else there'd be too many to keep track of.
Try turning OFF the plug-n-play OS setting in BIOS, so that BIOS
won't so easily surrender all functions to the OS.
