 As I recall....
The broadcasters never got that chance.

The FCC said Magnavox, and Kahn went to court.
Then, the FCC, said "FINE ! Let the marketplace decide."
and since Motorola owned both their CQUAM system, and most
of the receiver chip manufacturing plants in the world, they
produced a whole lot of CQUAM decoders cheap, world wide.
Motorola became the defacto standard, but Kahn would not
let that rest either, so then the marketplace DID decide !

Thus, my assertion that Kahn did more single-handedly to
kill AM Stereo than any other person or entity, living or dead.
And STILL he is not happy with his success.

Today, we have a whole lot of petty bickering over HD/IBOC.
If we again refuse to learn from Kahn's success, then I fear
that yet again, the marketplace will decide !

HD/IBOC may not be the "best," may not even be "good,"
and may in fact be "bad," and need a whole lot of "fixing," but
if we never move forward, I fear there will be nothing to fix !

If you took all the students that felt asleep in class and laid them
end to end, they'd be a lot more comfortable.
