Yup, you guessed it... all those fancy new monitors are displaying the
Wal-Mart network as 4:3 video stretched out to fill the 16:9 widescreen
aspect ratio!

I've also seen the opposite: in-store TV sets displaying widescreen video,
shrunk down to fit the regular 4:3 aspect ratio, making everyone look
skinny. Too bad most TV sets don't have a user-adjustable Vertical Height
control, because if it was broadcast that way, then everyone could have
widescreen TV without needing to buy any new equipment!

For the last 10 years we have been promoting the ATSC HD television most of
the demos have been very poor. Many of the displays run on the digital
cartoons from DVD or progressive scan DVD's to demo their units.

A few of the higher level store purchased the Leader test generator which
had a selection of NASA and manufacturers HDTV video which really was
impressive, including some sporting event clips.

By far the best stores that recently have picked up the Discovery HD Channel
and PBS HD channel do a much better job of displaying the capabilities of
the HD TV equipment.

I am personally appalled that the manufacturers of 16:9 sets that are not
even capable of 720P HDTV usually cleverly using the term "Enhanced Definition"
Also some 4:3 sets with an excellent picture marketing them as "EDTV" to
extend the marketing curve and raise the prices a $100.00 bucks or so.
