The one we had must have been exceptional, as it had no "normal" operating
flaws or even artifacts. It once had a problem that required a new 12AT7
every few days because it would go into expand mode (IIRC) and stay there
after the tube aged a little. This was corrected by replacing the 12meg
resistor in that circuit with 3.3 megs so that the normal infinitesimal
gassing of the tube would not cause this problem..............
