[BC] Achieving good S/N

Hi Mark:
There was an AM station in San Francisco in the 60's with the call letters
KSOL. (actually it goes back further than the 60's as KSAN which became the
underground FM station with LOTSA history) . We were continuously amazed
with the amount of compression they used. (more like shocked) We were always
in fear that if the jock (one of them being Sly Stone...yes of the Family
Stone) stopped talking he would be sucked through the mic, into the
transmitter and thrown out the tower! <g> I can still hear that sucking
sound!
My college buddy and I laugh to this day telling that story. I think they
had 20 Level Devils in cascade. They were a 1k/250 at 1450. Heterodyne
alley! Played soul music.
