In 1970, the station I was at (250W on 1400kHz) was the ONLY station in
town that ran 24 hours. Spots after midnight were a "dollar a holler." The
owner justified the overnight operation by saying he didn't want to give
the listeners a chance to tune anywhere else. Seems to have worked. The
station had a 66% audience share with top 40. There were two other AMs in
town and FM had not yet been discovered.
