A more immediate concern for WTOP would be WLAC on 1510,
who already have IBOC installed. If WTOP has any listeners in
the Carolinas, Georgia, the Gulf Coast, etc., they'll be history
once WLAC keeps the noise gen on at night. Of course, WTOP is
also equipped for IBOC, so mutually assured destruction will
kick in.
Maybe neither station cares about those listeners in the boonies, but
consider a station like WSM-650, which has a big skywave audience.
If, say, WFAN fires up IBOC at night on 660, a whole lotta Grand Ole Opry
fans will be having fits...
