I think most of the literature I have seen, and the practice followed in the field, was that the induction field changed to a radiated field at 10-20 times the tower height.
 
For DA's, 10 times the longest spacing in the array was the rule of thumb, tho some complex and larger ones seemed to need about 20x the longest spacing.  Readings closer in would be in general quite high.
 
I think the old Smith books discussed this also.  But been a long time since iIeven saw one, let alone read it!
