Rich are you sure about that.

My wife and I go to NYC a few times a year specifically for Broadway shows. 
I have never seen any signs or heard anyone talking about that.

The announcement at the start of most show asks that  cell phones and 
beepers be shut off or put in vibrate mode.

With the number of Doctors and first responders who go to shows there and 
who need immediate emergency communications it seems hard to believe the had 
a law prohibiting them.
