They have them here in the *City* of Milford, CT. We've heard it several 
times over the years. Of course, we are right on the coast, and usually it sounds 
when there is a significant risk of tidal flooding. It starts with a loud 
wailing siren, then a voice begins announcing the warning message. I think we're 
right at the limit of its range, as you have to stand outside and cup your ears 
to discern what is being said. It's not easy. Best to have 2 or more people 
listening, comparing "notes".

Based on the audible echo effect, it must be quite loud, wherever it is. I 
sure wouldn't want to live right next door to the thing!
