[BC] Cell phones and NOAA

It depends on the location of the transmitter.

Your best bit is to contact the local forecast office and ask or visit the
same code page I posted yesterday an look to see which station is in the
area.

There is a good bet that only one NOAA station covers the area where you
live and that is the same code you use.

I called the local Radio Shack and they said the 12-258 is out of production
and out of stock. They have a 12-259 for $50 that will handle SAME codes.
Does anyone know if those NOAA radios will handle more than one county code
at a time? My city straddles two counties.

  Hi Ron!

It stands for "Specific Area Message Encoding". I JUST purchased a weather
radio from "The Shack" and it has that option. You can preset the receiver
to pickup only alerts for your area. Down here in Alabama we have many
counties (I border Florida as well) so it comes in handy. It's much like
programming an EAS receiver for alerts that only affect your broadcast
area.

Hope this helps and here's the web site if you would like more
information.

Will someone please define SAME? I'm not familiar with that term.

    Thanks,

    Ron

I just bought what may be the last 2 12-258 units in the Bakersfield
  area.
Going to send to family in SW Ohio and friends in Agusta, GA.
Seems they have had a bout of bad weather.
