Audacity! Free. Open source. Linux, Mac and Windows versions available.
It is really quite good. I use Adobe Audition (Windows) and also MOTU DP
(MAC) for more sophisticated projects. An Axia client introduced me to
Audacity and I am really impressed with it. A nice editor for those of
who move between Windows and Macs often and it's easy to learn. Try it.
By the way, that client moved from Cool Edit to Audacity with good results
among his operators. Good luck.
