No. I don't believe what customer service tells me. I ordered a FAX 
line. It doesn't work, either. I can't use a modem because mine 
(rarely used) is a USB unit. I use it with my laptop when only a 
dialup is available. It's USB powered. The Tivo link only has info on 
DirecTV. Nothing on my Series 2 unit. I'll have to commandeer my 
Father's TV and phone line to get the initial setup done.
