It does, but only once a week, and as far as I can see you can't set it
to correct the clock any more often than that.


You can! Open registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient


And change the value of 'SpecialPollInterval'  to whatever you like. 
These are
idle seconds (decimal base) between synchronizing to time server.
